Some Suggestions for Facilities Management Rookies

First of all - Welcome to the Industry! I have had wonderful, interesting and rewarding 40 plus year career in Facilities Management (FM) and I wish you the same. Below is some food for thought from my experience:

7 tips for as you begin your career in Facilities Management:

1. Be Adaptable to Change
2. Hire Slow. Fire Fast
3. Always be Learning - Invest in Yourself and be a Lifelong Learner
4. Physically Walk at Least Some of the Campus Everyday (MBWA)
5. Develop Good Relationships (with customers, vendors, peers etc)
6. Listen, Observe, Learn, and then Plan, Execute and Review Results
7. Seek Out a Successful Mentor
